From Hanoi to Sapa is around 5-6 hours ride.

Morning Hanoi alley and hangover Jeff.

Sapa located close to China, we were there beginning of December, 13C-15C day time, 10 or less at night.

We did not know was gonna be that cold so only brought summer outfit.

Arrived at this square.

minority lives in this area, woman and kids have their national costume.

View from Sapa,  cold wet and foggy.

I used Agoda or hostelworld to find decent places , never booked it before, unless is necessary.

On our way to hostel/hotel.

T-SHIRT ONLY LOL.

Owner of hostel doesnt speak any english, we were impressed that he can manage a hostel with his family.

He lent a down jacket to Jeff.

First meal in Sapa, he knew we were foreigers so charged double price… or maybe was triple…never do back again.

Afternoon around 4ish, Jeff suggested rent a scooter to somewhere futher, some small villages.

Perfect time for visiting Sapa is around september to october.

On our way to discovered small villages.

Kids from village.

I can see they are poor but happy.

This little girl begged Jeff buy one bracelet, but he didnt.

I did, because i wanted to take a picture with this little one, unfortunaly, i lost bracelet after one hour….

Just like a painting.

Tả Van a small village about 12 km far from Sapa.

Snapseed is amazing for photo edit by phone, turn this place into a paradise just in 2 minutes.

Beginning of December isnt the perfect timing for visiting .

Tả Van

Still wondering how can a such  small shop support a whole family?

What time is it?

It’s coffee time!

Rode back before get dark, pretty dangerious to druve here, i saw two crash just in few hours.

Cold and foggy, about 8-10 degrees.

Barbecue for dinner!! Roast zucchini are the best.

Decent price, but definitely too expensive for locals.

The whole city is like a night market.

little girls to old woman , every one has their own street stall. Sells all kind og handmade artware, bags, scarfs and blankets.

I think she was like 4 years old.

After a quite long day back to hotel around 10 pm, owner of hotel invited us to join their family for tes time chatting.

He grew his own tea, bitter but good, homemade is always the best.

Surrounding by charcoal fire chat together feels like we were hosted by a vietnamese family. No phone no social media just people chatting in vietnamese, chinese and english. We still understood each other.

There were a guy, friend of owner’s daughter, he was in Taiwan for a few years so he could speak chinese pretty well.

Friendly owner.

We didnt know his name, well,  we asked, but he said some words that both of us couldn’t understand, so we called him Mike, he was happy with that.

His hotel card.

I emailed that picture we took to him, he replied in english, such a sweet guy,  he doesn’t even speak any english but he tried.

Jeff bought 2 scarfs, only 40 ntd(1.25usd)

Two fake vietnamese.

On the way back to Hanoi with banh mi

Bus station is 15 minutes walk from city center, definitely worth it to walk around the lake and enjoy Sapa atmosphere.
